4 Best Bets for the NFL Season

The NHL season is over, the MLB is firmly in the dog days of summer, and (except for some Kevin Durant trade drama) the NBA is all but wrapped up for the season. That means it’s time to start looking forward to football season.

These days, that means it’s time to start thinking about your futures bets. With sports betting now so popular in the US, a ton of football fans are actively trying to place some wagers and make a quick buck. Many sportsbooks offer big money sign-up bonuses, like risk free bets, to attract more users to their platform.

We’ve looked through some of the most popular futures wagers to find some of the most valuable bets for you to place your bets upon. Remember – these are not predictions. These are simply assessing which bets have the most value as the odds currently stand.

MVP Winner: Justin Herbert (+1000)

In only two years in the league, Justin Herbert has already established himself as one of the very best quarterbacks in the NFL. While he’s behind some bigger names at the moment, most experts would tell you that he is clearly on his way to becoming a household star across the country.

With established stars like Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady, and Aaron Rodgers ahead of him, and Josh Allen leading the crowd with a ton of preseason hype, Justin Herbert may very well represent the best value play at +1000.

NFC East Division Winner: Washington Commanders (+500)

I know what you’re thinking. The newly-christened Commanders are consistently a dumpster fire, that is frequently embroiled in scandal and embarrassing on and off the field. When they’re not literally dumping poop on their fans, they’re figuratively dumping poop on their fans.

But the thing is, they actually haven’t performed that poorly in the past couple of years. They made the playoffs in 2020, albeit with a 7-9 record, and had a 7-10 record last season. Not exactly overwhelmingly impressive, but respectable nonetheless.

Despite Carson Wentz’s well-documented shortcomings, it would be hard to deny that he’s a definitive upgrade over Taylor Heinicke at QB. Plus, blue-chippers like Terry McLaurin and Chase Young provide high-level talent on either side of the ball. If the Cowboys and Eagles slip up a bit, the Commanders could easily ascend to the top of the NFC East.

AFC Championship Winner: Los Angeles Chargers (+850)

A young team that was already incredibly talented improved a ton over the offseason. Adding the likes of Khalil Mack and J.C. Jackson to their defense, while gaining another year of experience for Herbert and first-time head coach Brandon Staley, you could hardly be blamed for hopping on the Chargers bandwagon.

This is especially true when you look at the odds. They are slotted behind by oddsmakers the Chiefs to win the AFC West, despite the departure of Tyreek Hill, and are behind Buffalo and Kansas City to win the AFC.

If you buy into the hype, then you could hardly be blamed for taking the big, juicy odds for LA to win the AFC.

Super Bowl Winner: San Francisco 49ers (+1600)

This one is all about whether or not you believe in Trey Lance. The Niners got to the precipice of the Super Bowl last season behind the arm of Jimmy Garoppolo, who isn’t exactly Tom Brady.

While it is by no means a guarantee that they can get there again, it’s clear that Kyle Shanahan, John Lynch, and co. believe in Lance. If the young quarterback can live up to his potential, then San Francisco’s ceiling is raised considerably.

It’s a ton of pressure on Lance’s shoulders and a bit of a mystery for bettors, but things worked out pretty well for Patrick Mahomes after sitting out his rookie season. Paying out at odds this high, it’s worth a flyer.
