Alistair Overeem is returning to kickboxing.
The former Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion, DREAM Heavyweight Champion, K-1 World Grand Prix Champion, and UFC title challenger previously announced that he is going back to his roots.
The return to kickboxing had fans excited, and now that his opponent is set fans are even more interested.
On Monday, Overeem — who was the first fighter to hold world titles in MMA and K-1 kickboxing at the same time. — was speaking to Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour when he revealed the fight will be against another kickboxing star, Rico Verhoeven, for the GLORY heavyweight championship.
“Next fight is announced, next fight is booked, next fight is final. We will be challenging for the GLORY heavyweight kickboxing title on October 23, in the Netherlands, in my backyard. Yeah, it’s going to be awesome. It’s going to be against Rico, and I’m very excited,” Overeem said.
Verhoeven also talked about welcoming Overeem back to the ring.
