The Tragic Event of the Big Megabucks Hit

Cynthia Jay was a cocktail waitress at the renowned Monte Carlo land-based casino in Las Vegas. On January 26, 2000, Cynthia was celebrating her mother-in-law’s birthday and took a shot on the Megabucks slot machine. This is a state-wide lottery jackpot that had rolled for quite a while. On her ninth spin, Cynthia won $34,959,458 dollars, recording the largest Megabucks jackpot in history.

Two weeks later she married her boyfriend Terry Brennan and a couple of weeks after that, she would be involved in a terrible car accident. A drunk driver slammed into Cynthia’s car at a stoplight. The accident killed her sister and left Cynthia paralyzed from the chest down. Cynthia says she would give all her winnings back if she could have her sister back and could walk again.

First Timer Craps Winner

Among other online casino games, craps don’t seem like an easy game. It looks pretty complex for new players; it’s very fast-paced and has many betting options. If you don’t know what you are doing, you can lose money very fast.

However, you can pick up the dice, throw it, and win big. This is exactly what happened in 2009 when grandmother Patricia Dameuro played a craps game at the Borgata in Atlantic City. She took the dice in her hand and threw it. She won no less than 154 consecutive throws. The total win was never revealed, but we know that she started with 10$ and even the most conservative craps betting strategies would return 50 times that amount.

The Student Who Took Down the System

In the movie “21”, a tale of college students say they developed a math formula that would allow them to win at blackjack. The true story didn’t exactly work out like in the movie, but the fact remains the same: the geeks managed to beat Vegas. The team used a card counting technique that reveals if the upcoming cards are primarily high or low and change their bets according to that. The team won big and over their years of play managed to get millions and formed an investment company to handle their bankroll.

The Negotiator

Don Johnson managed to perform even better than the MIT team. He didn’t count cards, but he negotiated some special rules with the casinos to get an edge. First off, he sought out casinos with favorable house rules. Paybacks refund a part of your bet when you lose. Some casinos offer high-rollers of 10% paybacks. Don Johnson negotiated a staggering 20% payback.

This means that if he won, let’s say 500,000 dollars, he would keep all the money, but if he lost, he would still get back 100,000 dollars. He also negotiated the right to bet up to 25,000 dollars a hand. As a result, Don won 15 million dollars from three casinos in half a year. Johnson claims that he (or his money) is no longer welcomed in most casinos in Las Vegas and it’s not hard to see why.

The hot and Cold Streaks of Archie Karas

Every online casino player dream that one day he will roll into Vegas with pennies that may turn into a fortune. Archie Karas actually did the impossible, hitting the greatest hot streak in the history of gambling. In 1992, Karas drove into Las Vegas with just $50 in his pocket. He was fresh off a colossal loss, nearly 2 million dollars in a Los Angeles high-stakes poker game. At Binion’s Horseshoe casino, he ran into a friend that lent him 10,000 dollars for a high-stakes Razz. In this poker variant, the lowest hand wins. Given Kara’s recent luck with low poker hands, this was just perfect.

Three hours later, he repaid his debt with 50% interest and kept some money in his pockets to continue playing. And he did so for three years. In these three years, Archie Karas amassed 40 million dollars. He turned 7 million into 17 by beating the best poker players in the state and more than 1 million by playing nine-ball pool. Until one day, when his luck went cold and he lost a major 11 million in craps in less than three weeks. Baccarat was also not in his favor, robbing him of another 17 million dollars. Poker did not return any money this time either and took another 2 million from Archie.

After some time off, he returned to Vegas and said goodbye to his remaining 10 million dollars. If you think that’s the lesson of online casino games, you are probably right. Except that, three weeks later Karas borrowed 50,000 dollars and won 1 million at slot machines.
