Florida Gators fan Christopher Honey, of Bend, Oregon, was arrested Saturday for the attempted murder of his lifelong friend as the two argued over the LSU-Alabama game, leaving the friend with bird shot in the back of his head and neck and Honey in the Deschutes County jail. Cops say Honey went back to watching the game after shooting his friend and eventually surrendered without incident after finishing watching the game.
Police say alcohol was a likely a factor in the shooting. Honey is in fact a former Florida Man who had some past legal issues including a 2010 for misdemeanor domestic violence battery in Okaloosa, Florida, and convictions in Tennessee between 1987 and 2009 for aggravated assault, ID theft and two DUIs.
Detectives learned Honey and the other man were at the home, watching the LSU-Alabama football game. An argument escalated into a physical fight, which in turn led Honey to get a shotgun with a birdshot shell and shoot the other man once in the head and neck area as the man walked away in the driveway, Bailey said.
Bailey added that the man was not barricaded in the home and reportedly went back inside to finish watching the game before surrendering to deputies.
No one else was at the home, though a person was on the property caring for animals and did not witness the shooting, Bailey said., He added that alcohol is believed to be a factor in the incident.
Honey’s Facebook bio (gatorbaitchrishoney) reads, “American by birth but Southern by the GRACE OF GOD!! Lake County Gator Club 🐊🐊.” There’s no indication of which way he was arguing over the game with his friend. I can only hope that these type of details come out during a trial. Was Honey defending the SEC as a whole? Was Honey anti-Bama and the friend pro-Bama? How does LSU figure in? So many questions here. There are trials I tend to gravitate to and if it makes it that far, I’m going to be glued to the testimony on this one.
It took some research, but I was able to put two and two together and Chris Honey’s Facebook page is littered with photos from 3 Sisters Equine horse sanctuary where the shooting took place. It’s unclear in Honey was the one house sitting the residence or if the friend he shot is living there.
