So this video from the Mexican League blew up last night and even though I threw it in the screencaps this morning, I feel like it deserves its own post. That’s how bad this call was. It’s so bad that I thought the video was fake at first. I’m still trying to wrap my brain around how two different umpires didn’t see the swing. It hasn’t even been a full 24 hours and this one is already going down as an all-time gaffe.
The only theory I can come up with is this home plate umpire was locked into a major daydream. Just zoned out with no regard for his surroundings. You know what I’m talking about. When you’re just staring at nothing for a period of time. That’s the only explanation because I’ve watched the video multiple times and his head is facing forward, directly towards the pitcher. As far as the first base ump is concerned, I have no idea where his head was at here.
Outside of the obvious missed call, another issue I have here is the manager not having a nuclear meltdown. How that man was able to keep his cool when a call is missed that bad is beyond me. I needed to see bases being tossed, dirt kicked, spit flying. This video definitely should’ve ended with the greatest manager meltdown of all-time.
Good news…both of these umps were suspended for the rest season
