I’m going to go ahead and assume most of you guys are rooting for Venus Williams in the women’s Wimbledon Final. She’s American, she’s ancient, she’s not Serena, and she may or may not have been at fault in a fatal car accident — basically narratives galore surrounding Venus.
However, if you want to be an American contrarian for the hell of it, check out her opponent, Spain’s Garbine Muguruza. The 23-year-old has been quite impressive during her Wimbledon run, dropping just one set all tournament with big wins over Angelique Kerber (No. 1) and Svetlana Kuznetsova (No. 7). She steamrolled Magdalena Rybarikova today to clinch her spot in the final:

Garbine is looking for her second career major — she won the 2016 French Open over Serena Williams.
