Friday morning I was thinking there was no way LeBron was going to Cleveland once ESPN put the full-on blitz with the Dan Gilbert letter and D. Wade flying back to Miami with the greatest player of this generation. And then SI dropped a lunch bomb: LeBron and his family were homesick for Ohio (which seems to be an issue for people from Ohio who move to Florida) and was coming home to live in his 30,000+ sq. ft. Akron mansion.
Think about that for a minute. The guy gets to come live in the suburbs of where he grew up dirt poor and will be living in a house with a security office and massive front gate to protect crazy white people from knocking on his door. His kids get to grow up and go to quiet Ohio schools where their father pretty much owns the football and basketball programs (Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary).
It’s hard not to believe the guy when he mentions how going to Florida was like going to college for him. He went away, figured out that home wasn’t terrible and that bringing at least one title to Cleveland would make his life complete. That’s powerful shit right there.
LeBron will be 30 in December. Tim Duncan just won another title at 37. You can do the math on how long Cleveland has left to get that trophy.
