Remember when the MLB playoffs consisted of the A.L. and N.L. championship series? Remember when celebrating a playoff series win meant you were going to the World Series? Now we have teams popping champagne bottles for winning a one-game playoff wildcard game.

And we have the Boston Red Sox shotgunning beers after winning the ALDS like they just won the World Series. It’s good TV and Internet. It generates pageviews. I’m not going to complain.

Meanwhile, in Vegas, the sportsbooks have Denver as 28-point favorites over the Jags. That’s a record. As for the last record-high spread:

For those who do like the Jaguars, there is recent historical precedence for betting them. In the 2007 game where New England was favored by 24 over Philadelphia, the Patriots didn’t come close to covering the spread in a 31-28 win.
