A new ad in Oklahoma might tell you all you need to know about the reach of Johnny Manziel. With Notre Dame, Texas and Oklahoma State on Oklahoma’s 2013 schedule, a Norman car dealer chose to spoof Manziel and the NCAA autograph investigation in its ad, even though the hometown Sooners aren’t slated to play Texas A&M this season.
Of course, the Aggies thumped Oklahoma, 41-13, in the Cotton Bowl in January as Manziel ran all over the hapless Sooners. The bros at Fowler Toyota in Norman, Okla. were apparently still mad enough about the loss to pile on Manziel in their new commercial.
In the ad (above), middle-aged “Johnny Savings” character is paid off by a couple of smarmy characters in a hotel room while he autographs helmets. Sound familiar? Yeah.
Meanwhile, Manziel is THE storyline heading into the first weekend of the season, which is probably just what he wants. Though the reigning Heisman Trophy winner is expected to play when Texas A&M faces Rice at Kyle Field on Saturday (on ESPN!), it has not yet been determined if Johnny Football violated any rules while signing autographs in South Florida and Connecticut earlier this year.
