Riley Cooper — yeah, that Riley Cooper — is encouraging Philadelphians to “Join Team Riley.”
Wait… WHAT? Yes. The embattled Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver is featured on a United Way billboard above 10th and Callowhill streets in Philadelphia (expertly captured above by the brilliant Dan McQuade of Philadelphia magazine). The billboard is part of a United Way campaign for the 2013 NFL season.
We’re going to go out on a limb and suggest that the United Way connected with Cooper on this initiative — and the billboard — before his awful comments were made public.
The URL on the billboard (Unitedway.org/TeamRiley) does not go to a player page; for example: Cam Newton’s has one. In fact, the Eagles do not have a representative on the drop down menu on the campaign page. Cooper probably was supposed to be the Eagles’ United Way guy in 2013. Oof.
Cooper and (now former Eagle) Nnamdi Asomugha helped the United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey in 2012.
So, what gets cut first: Riley Cooper or his United Way billboard?
