In case you missed it, it’s Rivalry Week in Major League Baseball. That means all the teams are facing off against their natural rivals, you know, like Phillies – Red Sox and Tigers-Pirates. Well, when you think baseball rivalries, none is more heated than the Tampa Bay Rays and Miami Marlins. Yeah. We got nothing.
Prior to the Rays-Marlins game at Tropicana Field on Monday, the wives and girlfriends of each team’s players played each other in the Third Annual Citrus Cup Softball Game. Proceeds benefited the Tampa Chapter Autism Speaks.
The Rays Wives beat the Marlins Wives, 12-11, on Aly Shelton’s walk-off hit (Aly is the wife of hitting coach Derek Shelton.) Also deserving MVP votes was David Price’s girlfriend Tiffany Smith, who led off the game with a solo homer. After the game, the Rays wives went out to celebrate Smith’s birthday (after the 2012 Cy Young winner gave her some dugout lovin’).
