We now know it’s official that Kate Upton will return to her old job as a Victoria’s Secret model. This news comes just a little over a year since a Victoria’s Secret casting director said, “She’s like a footballer’s wife, with the too-blond hair and that kind of face that anyone with enough money can go out and buy.”
There seems to be a very good reason VS is bringing back Upton – declining bra sales. The company is missing estimates and the stock is sliding.
In fact, excluding its performance in March and December, the month’s growth rate was the slowest since at least January 2010 for the chain, known for its sexy supermodel marketing campaigns and annual fashion show.
While downbeat mall traffic and colder weather likely hurt demand for items such as bathing suits and the brand’s Pink shorts, and the timing of Easter moved some sales to March from April, Victoria’s Secret blamed the softness on demand for its bread and butter category: bras.
Enter Upton. Her last run at VS was impressive. She was 18 and a bra model.
