Can An Olympic Javelin Athlete Out Smokeshow Leryn Franco?

For obvious reasons, we at BC and the rest of the world have been glued to javelin athlete Leryn Franco. You know how the Olympic committee invites certain athletes to make uninteresting sports actually interesting? That’s Franco. She’s a show that Nike has planted so they can sell shoes and booty shorts to Latin chicks. That said, is there another woman who could be a Franco of the future?

It’s not that Franco is completely incompetent with the javelin. Her last 1st place in competition came in 2004 at the South American U23 Championships – not exactly the Olympics. Franco then went to the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and finished 51st.

At 30, as we’ve mentioned, Nike’s getting one final run out of Leryn’s looks. She’ll finish up her career next week, have a couple more years being a sports model and Nike will dump her.

Someone will fill her shoes. Afterall, it’s just business.

Wanna see these ladies throw the javelin? The London Olympics schedule is as follows:

  • Qualification: Tuesday, August 7, 5:00 a.m. EST
  • Finals: Thursday, August 9, 4:00 p.m. EST

Want to bet on the event? You can do that, too. Don’t expect any of the ladies here to even get close to a medal.
