Nightcapper: Oh Shit! Landmine Under Ole Miss Bus At SEC Tournament Causes Slight Twitter Scare

The SEC basketball tournament is in full swing in Nashville and Ole Miss is on the bubble for the NCAA tournament.

Last night that was the least of their worries.

Rebels Assistant Coach Torrey Ward sent out this Twitter update.

“So we just got done with practice @ the Bridgestone Arena & we can’t get on the bus because it’s parked over a live landmine”

Yeah, seriously. According to David Brandt of the Clarion-Ledger, that was a real landmine and this wasn’t some sort of crazy hoax.

Well, the good news is I called UM basketball sports information director Joey Jones and he gave me a little longer version of what happened. Apparently, the route the team had taken to get to Bridgestone Arena went right next to some explosives that had been set up to demolish a building, but nobody had warned them (Kentucky took the same route).

Once the teams arrived at the arena, someone alerted the bus drivers that they should probably take another route when leaving Bridgestone Arena, so the UM players and coaches had to wait a little while as everyone figured out another way out of there.

Well, isn’t that just superb. What, MacGruber was too busy to help diffuse the situation?
