It has been 15 years since the New York Mets last played in the World Series, which was the Subway Series against the New York Yankees. The Mets lost the series 4-1.
Al Leiter, Mike Hampton, Mike Piazza, Benny Agbayani, John Franco and Edgardo Alfonzo are a few names from that team that won 94 regular season games, beat the San Francisco Giants 3-1 in the NLDS and then the St. Louis Cardinals 4-1 in the NLCS. While the 2000 Subway Series was huge for New York, it didn’t resonate on televisions across the country. It was, up to that date, the lowest rated World Series in history. It was the first year that Fox had the exclusive broadcasting rights to the League Championship Series and the World Series.

When was the last time the Mets won the World Series?
That was in 1986 when the Mets faced Boston in the Bill Buckner series. The Red Sox had a 3-2 series lead and a 5-3 lead with two outs in the 10th inning of Game 6 when a grounder that looked to be the final out and a Red Sox World Series title went under Buckner’s glove and into right field. The Mets scored three to win Game 6 and tie the series.
Two nights later the Mets beat the Red Sox 8-5 to win the 1986 World Series.
