With all of this Manziel/Hoyer drama that went on over the last 24 hours I almost forgot to post this photo of Paul Manziel’s (Johnny’s dad) putter sent to us by BC follower @. It seems pretty subtle.
I don’t really know why having “Heisman dad” on your putter is a big deal to Paul. It seems like not that many people would see the bottom of a putter. Maybe Paul likes for his country club caddie to instantly respect him when approaching the first green. This seems to be a great question for Paul when he rolls into Cleveland — in October — for Johnny’s first start.
It’s no secret that Paul loves him some golf. It’s well documented that the family used to live on the 16th hole of a country club. It’s also no secret that Paul doesn’t like golfing with Johnny. He told Wright Thompson all about it in 2013.
“I don’t enjoy playing golf with him because I don’t want to see that temper,” he’ll say later. “I honestly do not. I cringe when he wants to play golf. I don’t want to do it, but I know I have to do it. Because he still needs love. He still needs guidance. He still needs to see he’s wrong — and how to control his temper. And if I give up on him, who’s gonna take over? The school sure the hell isn’t gonna do it.”
