The 139th running of the Preakness Stakes is set for Saturday afternoon at Pimlico Race Course just outside Baltimore. Post time is 6:18 p.m. (ET) on NBC-TV.
Kentucky Derby winner California Chrome has won his last five races in dominant fashion. He is a 2-5 heavy favorite per SI:
With a victory at the Preakness, California Chrome will become the sixth horse since 2002 to win the first two legs of the Triple Crown. I’ll Have Another was the last horse to accomplish that feat in 2012.
Right. Build the drama (and don’t sleep on Bayern at 11-1).
As you can see in the photo gallery above, the stars came out to the Under Armor tent for the middle jewel in thoroughbred horse racing’s Triple Crown series. The sports apparel firm is based in Baltimore.
Caught in the crowd around the track (and in our gallery) were:
Tom Brady, Mike Tyson, Ray Lewis, Kliff Kingsbury, Jesse Palmer, Stephen Curry, Michael Phelps, LaVar Arrington, Willie Robertson from A&E’s Duck Dynasty, Southern Illinois University men’s basketball head coach Barry Hinson, Governor Martin O’Malley of Maryland and hordes of drunk people in hats.
In fairness, the Preakness has cleaned up its act in recent years, But there are always a few people who need to throw it back to the “good old days” of drunken debauchery at Pimlico.
