Tennis Star Eugenie Bouchard Wants Expos Back In Montreal

Eugenie Bouchard LEAD 2

Canadian tennis phenom Eugenie Bouchard (@geniebouchard) loves her country and her city.

The 20-year-old tennis star from suburban Montreal tweeted out a selfie on Thursday of her wearing a sweet red, white and blue Expos cap and the caption: “Come back. #please @Montreal_Expos”.

Bouchard also posted a throwback shot of her swinging a baseball bat while wearing Expos gear on a tennis court in 2012.

The posts came about two weeks after more than 100,000 fans watched the Mets and Blue Jays play two exhibition games at the Expos’ old Olympic Stadium. As you know, the Expos left Montreal to become the Washington Nationals a decade ago.

Spoiler alert: they aren’t coming back, certainly not from Washington. Maaaybe Montreal could convince the Marlins or the Rays to leave Florida, but Genie shouldn’t lock in that season-ticket plan just yet.

Bouchard just lost in the semifinals of the Family Circle Cup in Charleston, S.C. last week. The WTA Tour moves on to Malaysia next week.
