The Philadelphia 76ers are retiring Allen Iverson’s jersey number at halftime of their game against the Washington Wizards at the Wells Fargo Center in Philly on Saturday night (7:30 p.m. ET).
If it seems like the franchise has honored Iverson about a zillion times since the former league MVP’s last NBA game in 2010, it has. How the hell else do you get fans excited to see a team that didn’t win a game in February?
Iverson returned to the city that loves him on Thursday wearing a sharp New York Yankees’ hat. That’s not a new look for Iverson, but we assumed he might stay faithful to Philly this weekend. Guess not.
Fans attending the Sixers-Wizards game in Philly on Saturday will also see a special treat:
On the concourse outside of Section 119, fans can watch hair clipping artist Kenny “The Professional” Duncan cut Iverson’s likeness into the hair of a fan starting at 6:30 p.m.
No chance that fan is wearing a Yankees hat.
