Did you get caught up in the hype of the U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team clinching a 2014 World Cup berth with a 2-0 win over Mexico in Columbus last night? Probably not.
You know why? No cheerleaders. …The new New York Cosmos of the North American Soccer League understand. That’s why the club hand-picked their own New York Cosmos Girls to help get the recently re-born franchise off on the right foot (sorry).*
Soccer/futbol might get over in the U.S. one day, but it faces competition from other major sports leagues and indifference toward — and ignorance of — the sport. Cheesecake like the Cosmos Girls can only help.
The team’s next home game is Sat., Sept. 14 against Minnesota United at Hofstra University.
*The old New York Cosmos were the shit in the old North American Soccer League (1968-1984), before everyone gave up on America caring about soccer (for a decade or so). This is a new incarnation of that franchise — and league — with both falling beneath the skill level of the MLS.
