Adam Jones homered and drove in four runs on Sunday, as the Orioles beat the Giants 10-2 to take the rubber game of the teams’ interleague series in San Francisco. His three-run bomb in the ninth padded the lead for a Baltimore team whose bats have struggled lately, especially with runners in scoring position.
Apparently, one fan didn’t like that Jones had a big day, because a banana was thrown on the field in the center fielder’s direction in the bottom of the ninth, according to a Jones tweet.
As you can see in the tweet above, Jones astutely called the offending fan out as a ‘slapdick.’ He has used the term in the past, but never with this much vigor (or accuracy).
We expect there will be video confirming Jones’ allegation soon. He will move on to Arizona in the middle of a nine-game hitting streak, during which he is 17-for-36 (.472) with 4 doubles, 2 homers and 11 RBIs.
UPDATE: The Giants apologized, and the fan said the banana was directed at the Giants and not Jones.
