Megan Welter was supposed to be the Arizona Cardinals’ feel-good story this pre-season. News broke earlier this week that the 28-year-old Cardinals cheerleader was a U.S. Army vet who served in Iraq. The national and local media loved the story.
What they didn’t know about was Welter’s July 20th arrest on charges of assaulting her boyfriend. You can see and listen her go ballistic here (since the TV station’s custom player doesn’t work on all platforms).
Scottsdale police say Welter and her BF were drinking heavily when they got into an argument. Police say that’s when Welter assaulted him while he recorded her gestures and angry questions via a cell phone cam.
Welter told the police that the boyfriend hit her first and put her in a “choke hold with his legs.”
Of course, Welter is innocent until proven guilty, but that’s some brass to roll through the interviews about Iraq knowing the assault charge is out there and coming in hot.
