Lenny Dykstra is now an ex-convict. The former Phillies and Mets outfielder appeared on a vodcast with former MLB players Robert Fick and Dimitri Young (yes, really) on Wednesday to do his first interview since being released from prison after serving time for bankruptcy fraud, grand theft auto and providing a false financial statement.

While Fick and Young aren’t seasoned journalists, they cut right to the story with Dykstra; they immediately asked him about prison. In addition to talking about his hard time, Dykstra made a revelation:

“I actually read my first book in prison. …You know, I never read. (Laughs) I never read when I played baseball. And, I didn’t read because I thought it would hurt my eyes. You know what I mean? So it would affect my hitting, you know?”

Dykstra talked to Fick and Young about his family, finding rock bottom and some of his transgressions. “The Dude” may not be completely rehabilitated, but this is as clear as he’s seemed in a long time.
