Franklin H.S. of Elk Grove, Calif. beat heavily favored Davis H.S., 12-3, in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I North playoffs on Monday. Who cares, right? Well, the Wildcats put the game away with a seven-run seventh inning, including a two-run double by catcher Nick Frei that scored Sean Nicholson in spectacular fashion.
As the throw came in from the outfield, Nicholson hurdled Davis catcher Hayden Duer and landed on the plate for the run. Nicholson is lucky Duer didn’t stand up. The crowd’s reaction was pretty much what happens after an awesome dunk at the NBA All-Star Dunk Contest. Maybe Bud Selig should require one of these catcher hurdles each game?
