Louisville men’s basketball coach Rick Pitino’s 2013 has been like Bishop Pickering’s golf round before the lightning in “Caddyshack.” Pitino climbed back to the pinnacle of college basketball by winning the national title with Louisville in April (which he commemorated with a fancy tattoo later in the month). Pitino’s son, Richard, was hired as head coach at Minnesota, making him the youngest head coach in Big 10 history. Earlier this week, the coach with the golden touch reeled in a huge marlin like he was a master fisherman. Check out this photo posted by Cardinal Authority writer Jody Demling on Wednesday showing Pitino enjoying his off-season:
Amazing. About the only downswing in Pitino’s year was his horse Goldencents finishing a disappointing 17th in the Kentucky Derby. Has anyone checked on the horse lately? Maybe Pitino used it as bait to reel in that massive fish. As long as the coach stays away from restaurants at closing time and white linen pants, his magical year should continue.
