After flirting with a .500 record the past two years, the Pittsburgh Pirates are taking another run at breaking their woeful run of 20 consecutive losing seasons in 2013. The Bucs are 15-12 pending Wednesday’s game with the Brewers. The Pirates have done most of their winning without much help from franchise cornerstone Andrew McCutchen, who is hitting just .247 with a .731 OPS thus far. Fortunately, other players in the Pittsburgh lineup and on the pitching staff have been solid performers.
Since opening PNC Park in 2001, the Pirates have executed in-game entertainment at an all-star level from the Great Pierogi Race to A.J. Burnett hardo t-shirt night. Another cool example is the video below, which introduces the 2013 Pirates starting lineup in a style reminiscent of both “The Late Show” with David Letterman and “Saturday Night Live.” Watch it below. We’d love to see them do a retro version of this with the 1979 “We Are Family” Pirates with Dave Parker smoking in the open.
