Both figuratively and literally, the Mamba is out. As of this writing, Kobe Bryant is currently under anesthesia, while doctors repair the Achilles tendon he ruptured in his left leg during the Lakers’ win over Golden State on Friday night. Lakers trainer Gary Vitti suggested Bryant’s recovery will take 6-9 months.
However, the injury will not slow Bryant’s assault on social media platforms. He posted this Instagram pic moments before going into the operating room:
“Surgery prep time. Lookin like Mrs Doubtfire with a jerri curl cap lol Anesthesia next” #highasakite #mambaout
The Instagram photo came hours after Bryant tweeted about the injury:

Bryant’s Tweet came before his mini-meltdown on Facebook. Among the most notable parts of the rambling note:
“Maybe this is how my book ends. Maybe Father Time has defeated me…Then again maybe not! It’s 3:30am, my foot feels like dead weight, my head is spinning from the pain meds and I’m wide awake. Forgive my Venting but what’s the purpose of social media if I won’t bring it to you Real No Image?? Feels good to vent, let it out.”
“‘If you see me in a fight with a bear, prey for the bear.’ Ive always loved that quote. Thats ‘mamba mentality’ we don’t quit, we don’t cower, we don’t run. We endure and conquer.”
“Guess I will be Coach Vino the rest of this season. I have faith in my teammates. They will come thru. …Mamba Out”
It’s a wonder that Kobe’s Achilles doesn’t have its own Twitter. Oh, wait…
I’ll still be back before Derrick Rose!

Forget about this ‘Mamba out’ noise; Bryant will be back sooner than you think, just not this season. The Lakers, also known as Bryant’s teammates, still lead the Utah Jazz by one game for the final Western Conference playoff spot with just two games to play.
