Sidney Crosby Puck in the Face

Sidney Crosby is having a Hart Trophy-level season for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Crosby is leading the league in points and assists; he’s second in plus-minus, and he’s tied for 12th in goals scored. The Penguins have won 15 straight games. Even if you’re not a hockey fan, you know what all this means: everyone who isn’t a Penguins fan hates Sidney Crosby.

Saturday afternoon, the Crosby haters got a little present: Crosby was hit in the mouth with a puck off the stick of teammate Brooks Orpik during the Pens 2-0 win over the New York Islanders in Pittsburgh. Crosby was helped off the ice and did not return. He lost a few teeth and needed oral surgery. View the video below to see the carnage:

The Crosby haters took to Twitter to wish their nemesis the worst as he recovered. While there were also many Penguins fans angry that the hockey gods had taken away their star just days after delivering Jarome Iginla from Calgary, much of the reaction was what you see in the tweets inside the gallery below: raw, utter hate. The Pens still won, though. They are only two victories shy of tying the NHL’s all-time mark for consecutive wins, held by the 1992-93 Penguins.
