Let’s see a show of hands: who had Florida Gulf Coast winning two games in the 2013 NCAA tournament? We don’t believe you. There’s no way anyone could have predicted any 15-seed would make it to the Sweet 16, much less a school making its first trip to the NCAA tournament.
Florida Gulf Coast beat seventh-seeded San Diego State, 81-71, on Sunday, giving the Fort Myers, Fla. school its second huge upset at the NCAA tournament in three days. Neither Sunday’s win nor Friday’s defeat of Georgetown were close games; the Eagles have dominated the opposition with defense and lob dunks. Next up, Florida Gulf Coast takes on Florida in Texas on Friday for a spot in the Elite Eight.
When Friday’s game against Georgetown ended, Florida Gulf Coast guard Sherwood Brown went right over to dance with the Florida Gulf Coast cheerleaders. Brown is a smart man. Check the gallery below (it also includes some dance squad pics):
Play of the tournament goes to FGCU’s Sherwood Brown, congratulate your team later big guy, first hug the cheerleaders. #boss
