Mariano Rivera Announces He’ll Retire In Front Of Whole Yankees Team, Injured Brian Cashman
Mariano Rivera, the greatest closer in major league history, announced he’ll retire after the 2013 season on Saturday morning at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Fla. How respected is Mo? The entire Yankees team was in the press room for the announcement.
Seated in the middle of the photo directly above is Yankees GM, and veteran skydiver, Brian Cashman (light blue shirt), Hal Steinbrenner and Joe Girardi, Reggie Jackson and Derek Jeter.
Nice to see Jeets sitting down alongside the injured, retired and elderly.
Rivera started the presser by jokingly thanking Cashman for breaking team policy by giving him a two-year extension. Then Mo started the ‘real’ press conference by thanking Jesus Christ (not pictured above, but hard to argue that he hasn’t had a hand in some Yankees wins).
Prior to the conference, Mark Feinsand of the NY Daily News snapped this picture of Cashman, wheelchair-bound after breaking his ankle, laughingly telling Hal Steinbrenner something Hal didn’t find funny at all.
Maybe it’s a list of who will be catching for the Yankees this season?
