High School Basketball Player Loses Game For Team After Layup On Wrong Basket [VIDEO]
BC tipster @ToeBrown sent us a message this morning about an interesting ending to an Oklahoma high school basketball game. In a state tournament match-up between Hugo and Millwood, Hugo player Trey Johnson made a layup on the opponents basket.
His team lost by 1.
Hugo coach Darnell Shanklin chalked it up to a ‘moment of confusion’. Although we feel bad for the kid, this is pretty inexcusable. With under :05 seconds left in a playoff game you just can’t have that kind of brain fart.
That being said, even an opposing coach felt horrible. Millwood assistant David Samilton said:
When I saw the kid going that way, I was like, ‘No, he’s not. No, he’s not … Oh, yes he is.’ I couldn’t believe it.
It gets worse. Our tipster had this to say:
Ouch. As we said, Millwood ended up with a 38-37 win in the Class 3A state quarterfinals.
P.S. How boring was that game until the last play? 38-37 in a state high school playoff game?! Weak.
