UCLA’s Shabazz Muhammad And Ben Howland Played ‘Beer’ Pong Last Night
UCLA hosts No. 11 Arizona tonight at Pauley Pavilion. As the big, swinging ESPN game of the night, the contest got the full GameDay treatment this afternoon with Jay Bilas, Rece Davis, Digger Phelps and Jalen Rose holding court. Last night, after UCLA finished practice in Pauley Pavilion, Bruin players and coaches treated the fans camping outside of the on-campus arena to 40 pizzas.` Bruins coach Ben Howland and guard Shabazz Muhammad, 19, jumped in on ‘beer’ pong.
See those single quotes above and in the headline? We’re not sure it was beer. We weren’t there, and we don’t know and can’t tell for certain from the pics, though they look like Coors Light cans to us. What we do know is what we read from the Daily Bruin:
Two UCPD officers just strolled through the campout area, past beer cans strewn about the place and plenty of open containers of alcohol. They didn’t do anything. Looks like this isn’t a “dry campus” for tonight.
- Ryan Menezes, Bruin Sports senior staff
Alcoholic beverages are among the items prohibited in/around Pauley Pavilion as per the facility’s website. (Fwiw – So are ‘noisemakers including thunder sticks, musical instruments, whistles, air horns and boom boxes,’ meaning Lloyd Dobler is not welcome at Pauley.)
Whatever. Howland and Muhammad playing some pong is cool by us. There are no pics of them drinking anything. Given all the crap that UCLA alums give Howland for not being John Wooden — and who is? — we wouldn’t blame the guy if he shotgunned three beers before each half of every game.
UCLA-Arizona starts at 9 p.m. (ET)
