Todd Helton DUI Mugshot

Todd Helton landed himself a DUI trophy mugshot this morning after being picked up blocks from his house in suburban Denver. Blah, blah, blah. It happens. Should it happen? No, but even guys who’ve made over $156,000,000 during their baseball careers slip up at 2 a.m.

The Denver Post reports:

According to the Thornton Police Department report, Helton was arrested at 2:39 a.m. near 128th and Colorado Blvd. Helton lives year round in Thornton and was arrested just blocks from his home.

Helton released a statement through his lawyers that said: “Last evening I exercised poor judgment and was charged with drinking and driving after driving to a gas station near my house. I am very sorry and embarrassed by my actions. I hold myself to a high standard and take my responsibility as a public figure very seriously. My entire career I have worked to set a positive example for my family and in our community and I fell far short of this standard.

Again, blah, blah, blah.

The good news is that he didn’t kill anyone. As for Helton’s recent pre-Spring Training activities, was Helton “wasted” on Saturday night? Has he mailed in his final MLB season? The goatee is gone and he’s looking weathered. Todd also turns 40 in August.
