Who Wants To Insure Dikembe Mutombo? New Commercial Kills It [VIDEO]
Former NBA center Dikembe Mutombo was a shot-blocking machine during his really long NBA career (1991-2009). The four-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year would often wag his finger after blocking a shot, something he did 3,289 times — second in league history only to Hakeem Olajuwon. A new GEICO commercial brings Mutombo back for an encore in the office, at the laundromat and in the supermarket:
Mutombo wouldn’t seem to be the 1990s NBA player most likely to become a pitchman, but he’s now starred in this spot and a recent Old Spice campaign set up as an 8-bit game: “Dikembe Mutombo’s 4 1/2 Weeks to Save the World.”
This puts incredible pressure on Durex, Trojan or some other brand to step up and offer Mutombo a role that capitalizes on his greatest contribution to internet lore. He seems game.
