Henrik Lundqvist Makes ESPN Commercial With Swedish Chef, Loses To Boston Bruins [VIDEO]
After a 100-and-some-day lockout, the NHL returned on Saturday, featuring the Kings hoisting a Stanley Cup banner in Los Angeles, the Flyers losing to the Penguins in Philadelphia, and the New York Rangers opening up the season in Boston against the Bruins.
Rangers’ goalie Henrik Lundqvist was not his usual Swedish self, allowing three goals in a 3-1 loss to the Bruins. Perhaps the handsome Lundqvist was thinking about his budding career as a TV or movie star. Although, once you’ve starred in an ESPN spot with the Muppets’ Swedish Chef, there may be nowhere to go but down.
Watch the spot, which debuted on ESPN Saturday:
The real news here is that ESPN, which doesn’t broadcast any NHL games, actually used its airtime for an NHL star. Maybe Hank wanted to check out Linda Cohn and some of the other on-air talent over in Bristol?
Either way, Rangers’ head coach John Tortorella didn’t pull Lundqvist for the Chef at any time during Saturday’s game. We really hope someone on the Rangers’ beat asks Torts about this spot.
