Want one of these “Kirk Herbstreit Can Bite Me” NIU Orange Bowl shirts? Good luck finding one. Your best bet is to order one directly from Smack ($17.99), the t-shirt brand just waiting to slap a funny phrase on a shirt for college students.

The NIU bookstore sold out of its Herbstreit shirts within hours, according to Chicago’s Northwest Herald.

Two of the shirts eventually made their way to Atlanta where former NIU players Michael Turner and Pat Schiller proudly told Herbie to get some.

Here’s what Herbstreit said about the Northern Illinois football team:

“I love MAC football, but to put them in the BCS is an absolute joke to the rest of those teams that are more deserving. I can’t believe we’re even having this discussion.”

The Orange Bowl will be held January 1 on ESPN. Joe Tessitore and Matt Millen will call the game.
