35-24. Doesn’t sound like a horrible loss, right? Well the way the Chargers lost on Monday Night was the exception to the rule. They blew a 24-0 lead and gave up 35 unanswered points in the second half. Fans were irate. Bill Johnston, the Chargers Director of Public Relations thought this would be an appropriate time to tell fans to “take a chill pill” in a blog post he wrote yesterday.
What’s with you people? Yes, Monday night’s loss was bad. Horrible. Embarrassing. Ok…enough already. No mas. I get it. Now get over it. It was a loss. One loss.
All good points, yes, but the execution…from a Director of PR nonetheless, leaves a lot to be desired. If he was writing here at BC that would be one thing, but on the Chargers official website (where only Chargers fans will see it) might not be the best idea. Johnston continued:
Time to take a chill pill…If you want these players and coaches to succeed, then support them. Don’t tear them down. What you want and what we all want, including your team, is to know people believe in them.
On one hand we respect Johnston and the balls it took to write this. You know he was skeptical up until the last minute., going back and forth with himself on whether or not to actually publish it. We respect this power move, and if ownership doesn’t agree and gives him the boot, we’ll be here to give Johnston a shot with some freelance work.
