Ever see a minor league baseball game called off in the 8th inning when the ballpark’s outfield fence was destroyed by a violent thunderstorm? Now you have. This is The Diamond in Richmond, Virginia. The home team, the Squirrels, were facing the New Britain Rock Cats when said thunderstorm rolled through the area and left a pummeled fence. Team officials estimate 4,500 fans were at the game.

Miraculously nobody was killed or injured.

According to the Washington Posts’s Capital Weather Gang:

The storm formed as a cold front pushed southeast through the region. Billowing 35-40 thousand feet into the atmosphere, the spinning storm prompted a tornado warning. It’s not yet clear if a tornado touched down.

The team should have time to repair with the Squirrels next home game scheduled for July 4. Surprisingly, the team’s Twitter account didn’t feel it was important to report that its ballpark took on severe damage during the 6-2 loss.
