There might be a couple of you old coots reading this who remember March 3, 1962. That was a Saturday morning when you old coots woke up and read that Wilt Chamberlain dropped 100 points on the Knicks the night before in Hershey, PA. In Miami it was HUGE news. In Saskatoon, not so much. Thanks to the Internet and newspaper archives we can go back and see how those paginators played Wilt’s accomplishment.
Of course BC was incredibly impressed by the Pacific issue of Stars & Stripes headline and how the story played above the fold. As for the rest of these newspapers, note how impressed the editors were with professional basketball. Some papers gave the accomplishment four paragraphs of AP wire copy, while some tiny paper in Kansas went all NY Post with its Big Dipper headline.
Enjoy, old coots.
