Reason #3,694 Why Soccer Sucks: Wayne Rooney Benched Over Dinner

After blasting a beautiful bicycle kick last week, Manchester United’s best player, Wayne Rooney, got sacked by his coach for going to dinner.

Rooney apparently went out to eat with his wife and teammates Jonny Evans and Darron Gibson after the team’s win over Wigan. Coach Alex Ferguson, or “Sir” Alex Ferguson if you’re British, didn’t think too much of that idea.

During the following day’s training sessions, Sir Alex is understood to have overheard conversations about the dinner, leading to a furious exchange with the players.

We’re going to guess it went something like this.

“Hey, you asshats! You can’t eat dinner with your teammates and wife after a game! You need to go straight home and starve yourself! We’re Man U! We don’t need food!”

Rooney was also fined something in the six figures. That’s right. Six figures.

We could guess that Rooney and his boys were out boozing it up, but we don’t really know that for sure. Perhaps then the fine and benching would make some sort of sense. I guess if your name has a “Sir” in front of it, you can do whatever the hell you want, though.

Without Rooney, the Red Devils fell to the last place Blackburn Rovers 3-2.
