Jeremy Roenick On Flyers’ Fans: “They’re Crazy Sons of Bitches” [TWEETS]

‚ By

Jeremy Roenick has never been one to keep opinions to himself. In case you don’t remember, he called out Patrick Marleau for a “gutless performance” during this year’s Stanley Cup playoff run. It’s no surprise Roenick is at it again and getting a little flack today for his comments last night on Jay Mohr’s show, “Master Debaters”.

Roenick, who played for the Philadelphia Flyers for three seasons, said this of their fans:

“Do you remember when Tie Domi of the Toronto Maple Leafs were playing the Philadelphia Flyers and he was in the penalty box and that Philadelphia fan dove through the glass into the penalty box after the guy. That is messed up fans. Philadelphia fans are crazy, crazy sons of bitches.”

To which he followed up on Twitter saying:

“I am in shock that all u philly fans don’t get it. I said u were the toughest to impress and worst on opposing teams. I love phili and fans. The fact ur bashing me now when I gave my heart and soul to that city proves my theory about ur toughness. Hate me if u want but I love phil.”

You know what, I agree with Roenick. Philly fans are “crazy sons of bitches” and most Philly fans I know will agree. They are known to be a bit crass and abrasive, but they are also known to be the most passionate fans out there. I had the opportunity to go to a Flyers game last year and a friend that’s a Flyers fan told me, “You better be cheering for the Flyers or don’t even bother going to the game. But if you’re ballsy enough to cheer for the opposing team, it was nice knowing you Jess.”

This is the type of situation where it’s damned if you do, damned if you don’t. Because, like he said, Flyers fans are the toughest to impress. What if Roenick had said fans “wouldn’t even know that they lost to someone in the Stanley Cup Finals” like Ilya Bryzgalov said of Phoenix fans? Fans would have lost it. Take his “insult” as a compliment. Embrace it and own it, you crazy sons of bitches Flyers fans. It’s what makes you, you.
