When you’re a sports icon, people will shell out all kinds of dough for any number of weird things. Those things probably get even weirder if you’re a sports icon of the 1980s. And they probably get weirder still we’re you’re the Canadian-born icon of the Canadian game.
I speak, of course, of Brantford, Ontario’s own Wayne Gretzky. Take the photo above, for instance, which you can purchase from the Old Strathcona Antique Mall in Edmonton, where The Great One is more or less celebrated as a deity. This piece of art, a spectacular specimen of 1980s athlete, is on sale for only $42. And it’s framed!
Which brings us to our examination of totally useless Wayne Gretzky collectibles on the market.
The seller writes: This is for one 1992 Pro Stars Wayne Gretzky Cereal Box. Box is a flattened & measures approx 14 inches by 10 inches. Box is in as pictured condition.
This cereal box obviously is worthless to the common human being, but there is a guy out there who needs it to complete the entire set of Pro Stars cereal boxes.
