Busted Coverage 5 Questions Editor Joe Student filed the following report:
Mei-Ling Lam is looking a lot better than the Boston Celtics are these days… or any day, really.
While the eliminated C’s work on their golf games, Mei-Ling, a “Celtics super fan,” is Playboy’s Playmate of the Month of June. You can see her displaying her on- and off-court assets in the mag’s June issue and online at www.playboydigital.com. Two (clothed, unfortunately) photos in her pictorial were taken during a Celtics-T-Wolves game at the TD Banknorth Garden in Boston this season.
Mei-Ling is also the first Playmate born in Maine. A native of the small town of Clinton, Mei-Ling won Miss Maine Teen USA in 2001.
“I once duct-taped my boobs together to give myself more cleavage…I was 16, so I was trying anything to help with that… It doesn’t feel very good coming off,” she said.
Now living in Atlanta, Mei-Ling, 27, dished on meeting a Celtic recently and her naked past, but was still too pageant-proper to play the “F, Marry, Kill” game with Pierce, KG and Ray for us.
Before we go any further, now that the Celtics are out of it, which team are you cheering for: Bulls or Heat?
Ugh! Certainly not the Heat! If I have to choose, it would be Chicago. I like Rose, but I don’t know if he can beat them by himself. I don’t know if he can pull it off. I definitely can’t stand the Heat.
I haven’t. I am trying to get recognition from them. Maybe I will (send them an issue). That’s a good idea.
I think they’d like that. Have you met any of them?
I was back home (in Boston and Maine) a few weeks ago and I did get a chance to meet (Rajon) Rondo. That was interesting. He was nice.
What was the circumstance? Did he dislocate his elbow trying to flirt with you?
No! Nothing like that. No. We saw him out at a club. It was a pleasure. The joke among my friends is that I cursed him (into getting hurt). He was very polite.
Being from Maine, do you also identify with the Boston/New England teams in other sports?
Absolutely! Definitely a Pats fan and a Red Sox fan, no matter where I (live). I really love the Celtics, though. Basketball is just more exciting to me. There’s nothing like them and their fans. The atmosphere during a game is just electric.
Would you make Tom Brady cut his hair?
Oh my gosh, no! He’s way too sexy with that long hair. I think he should keep it.
You are the first woman from Maine to be a Playmate: Why did it take so long? Did the magazine think all women living there look like bears or Steven King?
I don’t know why it took so long…. I am more than honored.
How did all this happen for you?
Stewart Smith, a Boston photographer who has photographed people for Maxim and other magazines, photographed me and did test shots and it went from there. I had first worked with him when I was 14 and doing modeling and pageants, so I was really comfortable with him.
Was this your first time modeling naked? How has your family and friends reacted to your being named a Playmate?
It was my first nude modeling. My family has been nothing but supportive, but I will say that I waited to get their approval before I said I’d appear in the magazine. It’s important to me that they be comfortable with it. My brother was very supportive.
Is it weird for you to know that your brother –and everyone else– has now seen you naked?
It would be odd for me to say ‘No, it’s not weird for my brother to see me naked,’ but it’s not a sleazy thing. When I was a little kid, I was always running around naked all the time. He’d run around saying: “Mei-Ling: Go put clothes on! Go put clothes on!”…(laughs) but now he’s been just a wonderful, proud big brother.
What’s next for you in your career?
I want to use this platform that I have been given with Playboy to start a business doing the things I enjoy doing each day: a wine label or something fashion-related or a boutique. Something. I already had a restaurant when I was in college and I sold that. And I had a tea shop and I am done with that, so I am looking for my next challenge.
