Just before Christmas we received an email from “Matt in New Jersey” who was preparing for a trip to the Rose Bowl because he’s a Wisconsin fan who wanted to rid his body of that pasty white Jersey tone and write/photo essay for us about his experience.

“Of course, but make sure the photos are BC worthy,” were his only orders.

See, there are those who think they can put together a sports-event essay in BC style only to fail miserably. Matt said he was up to the task and had a great fan base to document.

Here is his 2011 Rose Bowl recap in photo format.

Guess who’s not getting laid in this photo.

Here is Matt’s full report:

Despite the uncharacteristically cold weather and the matchup not being as attractive as others in the
past, the 2011 Rose Bowl provided lots of excitement both before and during the game. The matchup
itself pitted the nation’s top defense versus one of the nation’s most proflic offenses and came down to
an exciting finish in which TCU sealed a victory when they picked off a two point conversion attempt and
then recovered an onside kick. Despite the loss, Wisconsin fans came out in droves as they owned the
tailgate scene and showed why they are known as one of the biggest party schools in the Big Ten.

As it was New Year’s Day and two hours behind Madison, Wisconsin and Fort Worth, Texas time many
people didn’t start rolling into to the Rose Bowl until around nine that Saturday. Some people came
early to see ESPN Gameday, however they were disappointed to find out that ESPN Gameday was being
taped live inside the stadium, and unlike almost every other taping the public was unable to watch.

When the fans did start rolling in you could find many Wisconsin fans wearing red and white suspenders
while some females wore short shorts with red and white high socks. Badgers fans were of course
grilling bratwursts, which is what Wisconsin is famous for, while pounding beers away. TCU fan’s, which
were severely outnumbered (Wisconsin fans were estimated to fill up seventy percent of the stadium),
were grilling and drinking as well, as some held their Texas flag with pride above their car.

Closer to noon the tailgate really heated up as the entire Rose Bowl parking lot and Brookside Golf
Course was flooded with fans. Neither team’s fans seemed too rowdy and were actually pretty cordial
with each other. Attractive blondes and brunettes from both schools were frequently spotted wearing
their team’s colors. However, by the looks of it, neither team’s female fans compared to schools like Ole
Miss or Georgia.

About a half hour before game time many fans started pouring into the Rose Bowl. As fans walked in
there were a few fans wearing obscene or humorous t-shirts. One fan wore a purple shirt that said
Horny for Life on the back. Two Wisconsin fans were walking around with their shirts off with fuck TCU
written in red on their stomachs. Another Wisconsin fan was even spotted wearing a badger skinned
hat, which he said was road kill.

All in all the Rose Bowl was an experience that any college football fan should experience. While ticket’s
aren’t exactly easy to come by and can go for big bucks, if your team ever happens to play there or you
are in the Pasadena area on January 1st it is something you should consider.

Tailgating entertainment provided by homeboy looking to impress the white folks.
